The GCMH was founded on October 1, 2023, following the merger of the former Medical Graduate Center and the Faculty Graduate Center of Sport and Health Sciences. As part of the TUM Graduate School (TUM-GS), the GCMH is responsible for overseeing doctoral programs at the TUM School of Medicine and Health.

The Technical University of Munich provides doctoral candidates with an optimal research environment across its departments, institutes, and chairs. Since its establishment in 2009, the TUM Graduate School has supported doctoral candidates through structured programs that combine the benefits of traditional individual doctorates with elements promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, international networking, and professional development.
