With around 4,500 students, 2,600 doctoral candidates and 1,500 researchers, the TUM School of Medicine and Health and the university hospital are among the strongest medical research centers in Germany. TUM consistently ranks at the top for medical education, especially in national medical licensing exams.

TUM University Hospital

On August 1, 2024, the Klinikum rechts der Isar and the German Heart Center Munich merged to form the TUM University Hospital, combining expertise from both institutions to benefit patients.

Since its founding in 1868, TUM has delivered world-class performance in research and teaching, consistently ranking among the top universities in Germany and Europe. With alumni like the inventors of the refrigerator and the diesel engine, and with 13 Nobel Prize winners, TUM is a hub of innovation.
The university hospital and the TUM School of Medicine and Health work closely together in research, education, and patient care. Their research focuses on four key areas: cancer, cardiovascular diseases, neurological disorders, and immune-related diseases such as allergies.
