The GCMH was founded on October 1, 2023, after the former Medical Graduate Center and the Faculty Graduate Center of Sport and Health Sciences were merged. As part of the TUM Graduate School (TUM-GS), the GCMH is responsible for the supervision of doctoral programs at the TUM School of Medicine and Health.

The Technical University of Munich offers doctoral students an optimal research environment in its faculties, institutes and chairs. Since its founding in 2009, the TUM Graduate School has supported doctoral candidates through structured programs that combine the benefits of traditional individual doctorates with elements that promote interdisciplinary collaboration, international networking and professional development.
