In addition to the mandatory basic program, the TUM-GS and the GCMH offer further optional qualification programs that support doctoral candidates in their interdisciplinary skills, provide networks, expand their international and interdisciplinary experience and offer career guidance.
Transferable skills support doctoral candidates to further develop transferable skills and expand their interdisciplinary experience.
TUM-GS offers transferable skills courses in the areas of ethics and responsibility, innovation and risk, business practices, systematic thinking, cultural competence, information and communication, personality and self-management, gender competence and other areas useful for interdisciplinary qualification and preparation for further career of doctoral candidates.
The TUM GS offers courses in the areas of ethics and responsibility, innovation and risk, entrepreneurial action, systemic thinking, cultural competence, information and communication, personality and self-management, gender competence and other areas that serve the interdisciplinary qualification of doctoral students and their preparation for further professional life.
This gives you the opportunity to further develop your interdisciplinary skills and strengthen your interdisciplinary connections.

The international research phase consists of either:
- a stay at a research institution or at a research-based industrial company abroad for at least 2 weeks at a time,
- a presentation of your own scientific results in the form of posters or lectures at international conferences abroad
- joint research work with international scientists at TUM. These can also be invited by (a group of) doctoral students. In special cases, the invitation of international scientists as examiners for the defense of the doctoral thesis is also eligible for funding.
