TUM Freezer Challenge 2026
The TUM Freezer Challenge 2026 is a competition that supports TUM labs in running ultra-low temperature freezers (ULT-freezers) more smartly and sustainably. By improving storage practices and reducing energy use, the challenge aims to lower the environmental impact of laboratory research and teaching, while also saving costs and improving scientific efficiency.
Participating labs are asked to complete and submit an online checklist of concrete actions. The challenge runs from April, 29 to October 30, 2026. Labs may take part at any point during this period, with no fixed start week, as long as all activities happen within the official timeframe. Registration is possible until September 30, 2026.
All teams with at least one ULT-freezer, either in their own lab or a shared lab, can participate. The challenge is open across TUM, regardless of institute, chair, or research field, including labs at the Klinikum.
