The public accessibility of oral examinations for doctoral candidates has a long tradition in the academic community. It enables disputations to be perceived not only as a final examination step, but also as a space for professional exchange. Interested researchers, colleagues and early career researchers can participate in order to learn from each other, bring in different perspectives and experience scientific argumentation.
At the same time, the open presentation and defense of scientific findings corresponds to a fundamental task and responsibility of every researcher: to present results transparently, to discuss them critically and to face the professional judgment of the scientific community.
In addition, the public announcement of the examination dates strengthens the transparency of the doctoral procedure and contributes to the quality assurance of academic processes. This ensures that research work can be viewed from a variety of perspectives and that the defense takes place as part of a lively academic discourse.
With this in mind, our Graduate Center publishes the upcoming dates of the oral examinations here. This means that everyone who's interested can find out when defenses are taking place at any time and have the opportunity to actively participate in scientific exchange or to further their education in a targeted manner.
In order to ensure smooth organization and the timely publication of examination dates, all doctoral candidates are asked to submit the information of their oral examination using the online forms provided.
